The Freemantown Historical Foundation strives to collect and tell the personal human stories of determination, struggles, courage, strength, and insight of those who molded our past.
Freemantown was an all-African-American community founded by William Thomas Freeman along with his father Mead Freeman and brothers Sanford and Essex Freeman. Together they purchased 500+ acres of land. They allowed 4 other families to inhabit this land during the initial establishment of Freemantown. The other families were the Jones, Montgomery, Rogers, and Sanfords.
Today, this land is connected to Berry College in Rome, Ga.
